Kristin's Way with KidsI have full confidence in my wife Kristin's ability and desire to be a great mother, and so look forward to sharing this adventure with her.
Last week she demonstrated once again how great she is with kids. One of our cousins, a three-year-old, was over and became cranky to the point of shrieking. Kristin told him in the most gentle, direct tone: "I didn't know that big kids yell like that." Without command or shame, our nephew quieted down so suddenly. Other times when a child gets grumpy she improvises something like "Look at that bunny rabbit. Do you like bunny rabbits?", instantly distracting the child from whatever minor disturbance was causing them such turmoil. Kristin seems to have an innate understanding of how children perceive the world. She has a great respect for the idea that kids should be allowed to be kids. Kristin developed this ability by babysitting when she was younger, spending time with friends' and siblings' children, and modeling her great upbringing. But I think it's her inquisitive nature which is most responsible. (That inquisitiveness is one of the things I most love about her.)
We are excited and ready to be Mom and Dad.
